How Does Address Verification API Work?

The Address Validation API helps you capture and validate addresses at the point of entry, which reduces errors in your database and ensures that the correct address is sent to the recipient. When an error is discovered, the API can return feedback on the issue and suggest changes to the address to make it correct.

Your customer enters an address in a form – possibly as part of a checkout or account signup flow. The address is then sent to the API – this can be done in real-time and without interrupting the user experience.

In the background, the Address Validation API carries out several technical processes based on the input address. This can include correcting misspelled or incomplete information, performing fuzzy matching (e.g. searching for a partial match rather than a strict one), correcting abbreviations, and performing geocoding to assign latitude/longitude coordinates to a location.

When the address is processed, the results are returned as a JSON object. Depending on the settings selected by your business, you can customize what information you want included in the validation response. For example, you can configure the API to return the digits in the zip code to help you understand whether a digit is missing from the input address.

In order to integrate the Address Validation API with your existing CRM or enterprise system, you will need a partner with advanced integration capabilities. You will also need to review the partner's privacy and data security policies, as well as any non-disclosure agreements that may need to be signed.
